Privacy Policy

Who I am

My website address is: https://yourplatewithcait.com.

What personal data I collect and why I collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

Should you decide to join my email tribe using any of the contact forms on my site, the only information collected is the information you feel comfortable providing. The email provider I use to collect and deliver emails to you (free of charge) is ConvertKit. I collect emails and first names so that I can keep in contact with you outside of my blog. I also collect emails to send blog post updates and free stuff, get feedback on future endeavors, and let you know of new products/events coming soon. If you no longer want these emails, unsubscribe at any time. (I’ll be sad to see you go, but I understand!)

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. If you have an account and you log in to this site, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

I use Google Analytics to collect data on what you interact with on my site. Don’t worry, the data I see is anonymous and cannot be used to link back to you. I use the data to make my website easier to interact with and for you to find what you’re looking for easier and faster. The data is also used to make new content that is tailored to your interests. I also collect analytics from my email provider, ConvertKit. I use this data to keep in contact with you outside of my blog (and social media). The data also helps me tailor my emails to fit your interests. I promise I won’t spam you, and I don’t sell give or sell your information to anyone. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Who I share your data with

I do not share your information with anyone. I have never (nor will I) sell your data to anyone.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. You can also unsubscribe from my emails at any time, which will delete your information from my email provider.

Where I send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information

In the event that you need to contact me about any privacy-related concerns, you can email me at: cait@yourplatewithcait.com

Additional information

What third parties I receive data from

On some of my blog posts, I do receive data from Amazon Affiliates. If you click on one of the Amazon product links on one of these posts, data is collected so that I can receive a commission from it. The data is not used by me for any other purpose as to see which products are preferred by you. Should you want to read Amazon’s privacy policy about what they do with your data, you can access that here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468496. As I said above, I use ConvertKit to collect emails so that I can send you free stuff. Data is collected but only what you feel comfortable providing (first name and/or email). Should you want to read about ConvertKit’s promise to keep your data safe, you can find that here: https://convertkit.com/privacy/.
